Friendster. Facebook. MySpace. Twitter. Hi5. AND A LOT MORE!

Social networks are one of the reasons that Internet spread around the world. The way you could connect with your friends from afar and even your not-friends-yet. And it’s a good thing. I love the idea that I could know what’s happening to my friends abroad by just looking at their posted picture. Or know what they are doing currently by just reading their published status.

Above all these “friendship” networks, I recently entered Hi5. At first, I thought of this as another Friendster. I hate it when a profile is full of colors, glimmers, etc. It’s messy! (Or maybe my eyes just don’t like it.) Nevertheless, I tried it. Just like Facebook, of which I am an avid fan, it’s organized and allows you to play games, too! But since I’m new to Hi5, I am still exploring the network. I also think it’s easy to work with. Friends, try Hi5 and add me as your friend. J

The DepEd Site

While other government websites are in a mess, this one site impressed me. Not only is it organized, but everything is given. Upon opening the page, you’ll have what you want. Its news is accurate and true. It’s also well-kept. It provides what most people who visit the site what they want. In the homepage too, you could have the summary of the contents of each of the tabs. It also has advisories, which I find helpful to my research. Visitors would find it easy to surf this website.

What about CS-105 (a.k.a. Internet Operation)?

Thank goodness we were only asked to write one paragraph. I really don’t take the pleasure writing an essay about something that could be answered in three words. :-P

Those three words I told you about are these: It was fun! Totoo naman ah! (It’s true!) Though it is an expensive subject, I enjoyed it. I enjoyed learning more about the Internet. And though half of my allowance is spent on internet cafés, it was worth it. Those entire quiz scores I got were only representations of my effort in memorizing the history of Internet (which I forgot already). I am more than eager to learn about it on my second semester. I also hope that on the second semester there would no more be hand-written examinations and Everything would be hands-on! Sige na po, Sir! (Please, Sir!)

Legacy for Me

June 16, 2009. That’s the day I first saw Legacy College of Compostela full with students. Hugs there, kisses here. Hi’s there, hello’s here. I was new to the school as I was new to the province of Compostela. I came with my parents (yes, like kindergarten). I was looking for my classroom. I was looking for room 119. Second floor, third floor, second floor, ground floor. At the back of the school, back to the front of the school. Second floor, ground floor. I just couldn’t find room 119! I gave up. I asked a person (who appeared to me as a clerk but was the administrator herself, as I found out later) where room 119 was located. She led me to a room made of straw, without a wall, and beside a construction area. My mind was full of question marks. Is this my room? Maybe this was where one of the Pearl Harbour bombs landed. Or maybe this is a remnant of World War II. I can’t help criticizing my soon-to-be eight-hours-a-day sanctuary. And being a city girl, I could really “notice” a lot. What do this school have to offer? How come population in this institution outnumbered the other schools? Well, I should find out.

October 7, 2009. Three months and 21 days passed since that realization and questions came to me. Semestral break is just two weeks away now. And I also found the answers to the questions above. (And by the way, my room had really improved.) This school has a lot to offer! Most of its students, if not all, are one to be proud of. Around the month of July, I got elected as one of the officers of the Student Supreme Government of the school. My co-officers impressed me. I was silently rebuked of my criticisms. These students have potentials. They have capabilities that could be honed with more help from the school’s administration. My instructors aren’t as bad as I thought. They were fantastic! (And they are still.) Just as every school has its imperfections, so does this institution. The school needs to improve its facilities, hire more competent teachers, and adapt a curriculum that would somehow meet the standards of more advanced universities. Of why our population outnumbered other schools despite its flaws, here’s a simple answer: We define “friendship.”
